Nodding Bur-Marigold, Bidens cernua: Grows 1-3 feet. Thrives
in wet, sunny places. Location: Pine Creek, PA.
Rattlesnake Plant: Gets its name because it thrives in the
same habitat as Rattle snakes. Blooms April to September. The blue-green Oval leaves with dark purple veins are quite conspicuous.
Hawkweed: one of several species. Related to RattleSnake Plant above and dandelions. Location: Twin Oak Schoolhouse,
Green Ridge SF, MD.
Wingleaf Primrose-willow (Ludwigia decurrens): Summer
bloomer. Grows 1-2 feet. Prefers wet, sunny areas. Location: Thompson Hollow Trail, SNP, VA.
Marsh Marigold: As the name implies these flowers love water. Bloom April-June. Location: Cranberry Glades, MNF, WV.
Hispid (Marsh) Buttercup (Ranunculus hispidus): Spring Bloomer, usually near water.
Location: Jeremy's Run Trail, SNP, VA.
Fringed Loosestrife (Lysimachia ciliata): Grows in moist areas. Location: Williams River, Tea Creek
Backcountry, MNF, WV.

Colt's Foot: In the Dandelion family. Blooms quite early. Location: Racer Camp Hollow Trail, GWNF, VA.
Whorled Loostrife, Lysimachia quadrifolia: 4 leaved whorls of lanceolet leaves with small yellow flowers w/red
centers under the leaves. Location: Mudhole Gap Tr, Massanutten Mt, VA.
Large Yellow Wood Sorrel, Oxalis Grandis: Seems to be more scarce than its Pink/purple cousin. Grows in open
woods and along roadsides. Location: Massanutten Mt Tr, GWNF, VA.
Green and Gold (Chrysogonum virginianum): Blooms in May-June. Spreads via runners and easily domesticated. Location:
Jeremy's Run, SNP, VA.
Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis): Summer Bloomer.
Grows over 4 feet tall. Sunny, wet areas. Flower closes during the day. Location: Williams River, Tea Creek Backcountry, MNF,
WV.
Cinquefoil: One of several species. Grows to about a foot. Note the saw toothed-lancolete leaves. Location: Pine
Creek, PA above the Grand Canyon.

Yellow Violets: Leaves the same as common purple Violets but the
flower petals are quite different. Location: Shenk's Ferry Wildflower Preserve, Holtwood Recreation Are, PA.
Trout Lily: Stream-side plant but has also been found on PA ridge tops. Blooms
in May. Location: Pond Run Trail, Green Ridge State Forest, MD.
St. Johnswort: Blooms June to September. This specimen found in full sun as thickets on Dolly Sods, MNF, WV.
Common Yellow Wood Sorrel, Either Oxalis stricta or europaea. Considered a weed in gardens and sidewalks. Location:
Pine Lick Trail, Green Ridge SF, MD.
Celadine (Chelidonium majus): Blooms May-June. Can grow to 18 inches.
Location: AT in SNP, VA.
Wild Oats/Bellwort (Uvularia sessilfolia): Stems grow through the leaves as the flowers nod. Grows on dry mountain
trails. Blooms in May. Location: AT in SNP, VA.
